Fuel for Thought

A topic for this blog post refused to come to me.  I guess my muse went on vacation.  Thanks.  Anyway, I couldn't think of one subject that I wished to write about so I'm sitting in front of my messy desk, watching the cursor flicker at me, and munching on pretzel sticks.  My fuel for thought.

Delicious fuel to get my mind going--The buttery taste so creamy then the explosion of salt.  I'm in heaven. While munching on one, it came to me--my snack needs praise for the help it gives me.  Everyone has their snack that is comforting and stomach filling.  These stick pretzels do that and also help me think .  In college, I munched on them during a lecture.  Somehow, they kept me focused on the lesson even these years later, I get into the zone when I'm eating them.

Some people use food as a reward.  The sundae if finish the revisions are completed.  A cheesecake if you write that synopsis.  I even read it in one of Kasey Michaels's books where her heroine who was a writer, would line up M & Ms (another of my beloved snacks) then once reaching writing goals would eat them.  Sound yummy.  We all need something to get through some tasks and every little thing helps as the cliche goes.

What is your favorite?  Do you have more than one?  Is the food a reward or is it your fuel for thought?

Great Post, Mageela!

I don't have a favorite snack, but I devour anything salty--peanuts being high on the list. They fill a tiny Chinese sauce bowl on my desk. My choice of bowls serves two purposes. Limiting how many I can eat at one sitting and taking up little space since my cluttered desk is strewn with papers, folders, pens, my water glass, etc.

I admit to fudging and refilling the bowl when I hit a creative wall, staring at that same cursor, and feeling empty-minded.

My fuel for thoughts is almond. Non-salty, natural almonds. I just love them and I am happy they are good for the health. Huh, maybe not if you eat the quantities I eat while typing on my computer. But they work, give me inspiration, help me relax, and contain a good deal of omega acid, and help lower cholesterol.

Mageela, I need my Swedish fish to really get into the writing Zone. I love them. Plus, they are fat-free.

Chocolate is always an incentive, but if I eat too much, it does weird things to my concentration. I agree on foods with salt at times helping. For some crazy reason Fritos have become a comfort food, too, and also popcorn. As you can see, I am very fickle, but I blame that on my gemini personality which I have been told is very evident from past posts on our loop here. :)

My stomach is rumbling. Peanuts, chocolate, Swedish fish and almonds. I love all those too. You ladies have me thinking of heading to the store and getting more snacks. TO improve my writing it is all about the writing :)

Mageela,
Chocolate wins as my reward. After I write my 2,000 words a day, it's time for a handful of M & M's. OK--2 handfuls. :)

I really don't have food as my fuel for thought, but I use a nice long walk at creek near my home. That always clears my head, gets the juices flowing and wakes up the muse.

I don't eat when I'm writing--so if I write more than I'm bound to lose weight. I do drink though. Knocking back Diet Coke, hot tea, and water interpersed with the occasional glass of wine.

My secret vice and my reward is a huge milk chocolate bar with toffee and almond bits.I try to eat one square for each accomplishment, impossible. I munch and soon the entire thing is gone. My second favorite and not so secret reward and are Cadbury cream eggs. Cheese Pringles and Cheese Nach chips are my snack of choice when having writers angst. I don't acknowledge the foul word "writer's bl*#K".Food is more fuel for thought and a distraction when things aren't going well and my three muses are vacationing in Ireland or On a cruise ship around the world.

Yummy! What a fun topic. I don't eat while I write, but I do reward myself with dinner out and tiramisu for dessert when I final in a contest or receive a request. :)

Hey Mageela, great post and something we can all relate to.
For me, food is something I use as fuel, rather than a reward. The reward system has never worked with me, even as a child - I get fixated on the prize and forget about the task in hand!
Plain food wins over fancy candies everytime - fruit and nuts, crackers and cheese, and yeah I favour salty and savoury things over sweet stuff. That said, I'll never turn down a square of Lindt's fantastic 70% chocolate, que bueno!
