Happy New Year!

With the start of the New Year it’s time for me to launch into my latest creation after taking three months away from writing to work on my daughter’s new home. I am looking forward to changing out the paintbrush for the pen (or computer keyboard).

Lots of ideas have been circulating in my head during my three-month break. Now I have to pin down my favorite idea and make a story out of it. But I’m doubting myself. Despite having written a number of books, a nasty little voice in the back of my head tells me I can’t write another one. When I go straight from writing one book to writing another I am fine, but if I take a break between books the doubts have time to creep back.

Once I get underway with the story the little gremlin in my head who wants to deter me goes back in his cage. I used to think that after I’d written a few books I would get over this but obviously not.

How about you? Do you doubt yourself between books?

Hi Helen, my problem is deciding which story to write next and even when it's will anyone want it. That's the thing that gets me down the most. Sigh. But, I'm already looking forward to reading whatever you send me.

I have the same problem. But I discovered that if you sit at your computer and start writing. Eventually the ideas will organize themselves and your muse will come back. Ready for you anytime. I know it will be good, especially after you allowed your brain to relax. I get my best ideas when I am relax or in vacation.

Oh man, all the time, Helen. LOL I don't know what it is about those gremlins, but I sure wish they'd take a permanent vacation. :-)

A three-month break is a long time to be away from writing, but it's like riding a bicycle, you never forget. You may be a little wobbly at first, but you'll sit down and those fingers will glide across the keyboard with confidence. You're an awesome writer

Helen,

The doubts are always there, we have to constantly beat them back. You can do it, I have faith in you.

Helen,
You're playing my song. The doubts are always there. Like Mona, I've found that if I can just push myself to sit down at the computer and write, the muse will surface.
