I’ve always been fond of
things made out of solid wood, so I began a tradition of buying every niece and
nephew a carving of their name as a baby gift.
When I published my first
book, LAST RESORT, friends of mine were tickled to find the words THE LAST
RESORT, made out of wood, in a beach gift shop.
I loved their clever, thoughtful gift. Later, my
husband neatly sawed of the ‘The,’ and my title was ready to display.
Since then, I’ve had each
of my titles made into standing wood carvings.
I choose unpainted balsa wood and let the carvers know what font was used for the
title (our cover artists have that information). I send them the cover of my book, as well. If the company
doesn’t have the font on file, I find a free download ‘ttf’ of it and send it to them.
My titles sit proudly above
my desk, reminding me of what I’ve accomplished and what I still want to
achieve. Yup, it’s a gift I give to
myself, a tangible reward for years of hard work and angst.
Though I'm sure many businesses, both on line and local could do the work, I’ve enjoyed working with

Add this idea to your
Christmas list, or, like me, give the present to yourself. You deserve it!
For your viewing pleasure,
here are my two titles for the Boutique Funeral Planner Series. The font happens to be Lutin Flibuste, and
the carvings of the titles are perfect matches!

I love this idea Rolynn! Thank you so much for posting this. With Christmas right around the corner, I'm always looking for gift ideas for my author pals. Super information!
I like the idea, Rolynn. Getting published is a big deal, I can't think of a better acknowledgement. And who doesn't enjoy treating themselves every once in a while?
And the carvings can also be used as paper weights! Well, not really, but it's an additional excuse for anyone who needs a practical reason to treat themselves. Grin. Lovely idea and enjoyed the post -
AJ, Debra and Ashantay, thanks for your Kudo's. I love my carved titles and you will, too! Rolynn
What a great idea! I may have to do this for myself or put it on my wish list.
What a good idea! I'd not have thought of that. Now I know what to get some of my friends for Christmas. (Oh, a me, too LOL) Barb Bettis
Monica and Barbara...treat yourselves...you deserve it!
That IS a super idea, Rolynn! I would love to see some of your title carvings. :) I am making my Christmas list for author pals now!
I promise to take a pic of my four titles when my most recent order arrives. Hang tight, my friends!
